The application deadlines via Klips 2.0 are 15 July for the following winter semester and 15 January for the following summer semester. PLEASE APPLY ONLINE ONLY!

Please note that applicants must have passed the first examination in accordance with § 5 of the DRiG or a first professional qualification in a law degree program lasting at least eight semesters, in which at least 240 credit points (ECTS) - of which at least 60 ECTS must be in German law - have been acquired. Exceptions to these requirements are not possible. 

For applicants with a foreign university degree, the application process is a two-stage process. First, you must apply for preliminary examination documentation (VPD) via the uni-assist portal. You can find more information about the VPD here. Second, you must apply for the degree program via the University of Cologne's application portal at Klips 2.0 . In addition, proof of very good German language skills is required. You can find more information about recognized language certificates here .

Please note that the receipt of your application cannot be confirmed, even upon request. If you have not received admission by the start of lectures, you must assume that you have not been allocated a place. Please understand that no statements can be made about the current application procedure.

Please have the following documents ready for the online application and possible later enrolment:

  • Proof of admission requirements in German or certified translation: 
    • Successful completion of the First Examination in Law or the Second State Examination, or
    • Successful first professional degree in a law degree course lasting at least eight semesters, in which at least 240 credit points (ECTS) were acquired, of which at least 60 ECTS in German law 
  • Description of the (previous) course of study (transcript of records)
  • High school diploma
